Island of Flowers
A Seasonal Guide to Wild Flowers of the Wight
Judith Hammer

'This is not an academic book, nor is it a complete collection of Island flowers. It is simply a personal gathering of some 200 flowers and fruits painted as I found them', the author writes.

The flowers are not grouped into families but roughly in order of flowering throughout the year. An Identification Key makes the task of identifying individual flowers easier and more fun by listing them under colour, shape and size. The notes alongside each picture also suggest where they may best be found and roughly their period of flowering, so that the book can be used as a guide by readers everywhere as they look for flowers when out walking. Also featured are notes on the medicinal and other properties of certain wild flowers, as well as recipes for using some of the fruits.

Alan Titchmarsh writes in his Foreword:
Judith's flowers come to life on every page - a rare talent when it comes to botanical art. I envy her skill and salute her endeavours. This is one of the most charming books I have ever opened.
